terraced retreat

Our clients were faced with a large, but aging stone patio and an abrupt 5’ grade change up a hill to their large, open backyard. Not to mention their exuberant hole-digging dog, Wally! We heard “We never want to entertain out here.” We knew we could give them the outdoor space they’d be proud of.

We created a series of terraced planting beds to address the slope issue, with a central set of natural stone grand steps. On one of the levels, a wooden deck seating area designated for a quiet breakfast coffee or afternoon book reading was designed. A new lower patio of natural stone, laid properly to contend with a sandy subsoil was constructed. A cedar fence with custom decorative metal privacy panel inserts completed the project.

As for Wally, a specific dog “play and dig” area was built, providing all the space he’ll need to dig to his heart’s content!
