urban gardening

A typical city backyard space created a challenge for these gardening-focused clients. Their requirements were clear: create a mixed-use green space with shrubs, trees, perennials, and vegetable beds along with a quiet seating area away from the house, appropriate for gatherings with friends.

We added a native Serviceberry, Paperbark Maple, raised vegetable gardens, and lots of flowering shrubs and perennials for the pollinators and for this native-plant-loving family.

In keeping with a desired English garden vibe, we built a circular patio and combined it with garden areas defined with a curving border of soldier-course paving stones and sod for a pathway. A water feature of basalt stones and a natural screen of pyramidal yews were added for ambiance and privacy.
